What is Registry?

In the Microsoft Windows OS registry is a specilal database that stores configuration information (settings and options) for the operating system. The information stored in the registry concerns software, hardware, preferences and users settings. Any time when you change settings of the installed programs or Control Panel settings, they are written to the Registry. Most Windows programs write data to the Registry during installation.
