Last Known Good Configuration
The Last Known Good Configuration is a Windows option that enables you to roll back configuration changes
to the last time when the system was functioning properly. The Last Known Good Configuration
was introduced in Microsoft Windows 2000 and appears in all later versions. In some cases it’s a possible way to fix the 0x0000008E error.
What Should I Know about Last Known Good Configuration?
- Last Known Good Configuration option changes only system settings. That is why it can
be an effective remedy against Stop: 0x0000008E and other Windows errors. It won’t affect your personal data (photos, emails, documents) * Last Known Good Configuration won’t help you to restore accidentally deleted data. You should use special recovery software if data loss occurs. To prevent data loss you should regularly backup your files, manually or using backup software, which is easier and less time-taking. Also, you are advised to install recovery software on your computer in advance, not after losing data (especially if you have a laptop). * Last Known Good Configuration changes cannot be undone. If you notice that Windows is still not working correctly, you can try using System Restore function. System Restore rolls your system back to an earlier point in time when it functioned properly (you can choose from different time points). System Restore changes can be undone, which is impossible with the Last Known Good Configuration (unless you rolled back in Safe Mode).
However, don’t hurry to pay from $250 to $500 or more to PC repair services (that’s an average
cost of things you can easily do on your own at little or no cost).
